HardCopy Pro is a versatile software tool you can use to capture any area of your screen. With this program you can capture specific windows, your whole screen, or custom rectangular areas, optionally including the mouse cursor. Besides, HardCopy Pro includes a simple but functional image editor which allows you to perform some basic editing functions over your captured images.
The program's main window offers you a set of tabs to fully customize the screen capturing process. First of all, you can define the hotkey you would like to use to start the screen capture (PrintScreen by default), and the type of capture the program will perform by default. You can also configure the color mode for your captures from a list of values, which include black & white, grayscale, 256 colors, and true color. Besides, the program includes a timer function you can use to schedule automatic screen captures.
As soon as you execute a screen capture – either by pressing your configured hotkey or by using the menu from the program's tray icon – HardCopy Pro opens its main window and shows you a thumbnail of your captured area. Now you can launch the program’s image editor, which offers very basic image editing functions, as I mentioned before. These functions include changing the color mode, highlighting a specific region, cropping the image, and inserting lines, arrows, freehand drawings, boxes, and customized texts. You can even configure the brush size of this editor, though it is still a very basic one and it lacks many of the functions offered by other image editors. Nevertheless, you can configure the program to open your capture with an external image editor of your preference.
Once you are totally satisfied with your screen capture, you can perform one of the actions the program offers you – saving the capture, copying it to the clipboard, sending it by e-mail, or printing it. All these actions are fully configurable, and they can be executed from within the program directly without the need of any external tools. Besides, you can configure the program to perform any of the actions automatically every time you make a screen capture. When saving your captures, you can select between several image formats, such as BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, and TIF. You can set the image quality for the JPG format as well.
To sum up, HardCopy is a very comprehensive tool that I would highly recommend you to try, as it will fulfill all your screen capturing needs, unless you really need advanced image editing features.
